PAUSE - Patterns of AI Use: Self-Examination · A self-check for how AI is shaping your habits
A free, anonymous, browser-based self-check for how everyday AI use
may be shaping your habits of thought, across four areas: reasoning and
critical thinking, creativity and originality, research and learning, and social
and communicative capacity. It is a self-reflection tool for AI-associated
cognitive offloading.PAUSE is a self-reflection tool, not a validated psychological instrument. It presents no reliability or validity evidence, and all readings should be interpreted as descriptive self-reflection rather than psychological measurement. The application is privacy-preserving by design:2 scoring is deterministic and runs client-side, no personal data is required, nothing is transmitted or stored beyond the browser session, and no LLM is involved in production.
JavaScript is required. PAUSE renders its pages and runs all of
its scoring inside your browser; that client-side design is what lets it collect
and transmit nothing. With JavaScript disabled, neither the content nor the
self-check can load. The full source is readable at
